Nearly 500 expected to take part in walking and running races

The popular Syd Quirk Half Marathon will be taking place on the Isle of Man today (23 November).

Nearly 500 participants are due to take on either the half-marathon run or walk races in the south of the Island which get underway from 8am this morning.

Last year, the event saw a record turnout with entries filling in just over 24 hours.

As a result of today's meeting, the Ronaldsway Industrial Estate Road will be closed to vehicles from 8.30am to 11.30am.

Proceedings will get underway with the half-marathon race walk at 8am before the half-marathon run will set off in two waves.

The first at 8.15am will involve runners expected to complete the course in over two hours, 15 minutes followed at 8.30am by competitors expecting to finish in under that time.

Both the walk and run will start and finish on the Ronaldsway industrial estate with the course taking athletes through the Ballasalla and Castletown areas on open roads.

Entries for the races have already closed.
