Manx Utilities says scheme will help meet demand for more public charging facilities
Works progressing on the Airport’s solar electric vehicle charging hub, says Manx Utilities.
The project is being built to meet the demand of the number of electric vehicles on the Island and the amount of charging points available.
It will also use renewable energy generated from solar panels above the charging points.
It's being developed in partnership with the Department of Infrastructure, and a similar project has already been installed at the other key gateway to the Island, the Sea Terminal giving visitors the chance to charge their electric vehicle.
A spokesperson for Manx Utilities said: "The Ronaldsway Airport Solar EV Charging Hub is an important addition to the Island's charging network.
"By combining ultra-rapid charging facilities with on-site solar generation, the project will provide convenient charging facilities at one of the Island's principal gateways, supporting businesses, visitors and residents, who use electric vehicles.
"Together with the recently completed facilities at the Sea Terminal, this project will improve access to EV charging at the Island's two principal gateways and help ensure the charging network continues to develop in line with growing demand."
Mark Beveridge, Airport Director said: “As the Island's main air gateway, we want to ensure our facilities continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community.
"Providing convenient EV charging is another positive step in improving the facilities we offer, while making better use of our estate and supporting the Island's wider sustainability ambitions."
